Competition Terms and Conditions(Required) SIMIFF Film Music Competition – Terms & Conditions
By submitting an entry to the SIMIFF Film Music Competition, the individual completing the submission confirms that they have read, understood, and agree to these Terms & Conditions and have the legal authority to do so on their own behalf and, if applicable, on behalf of the composer.
⸻
1. Eligibility
The SIMIFF Film Music Competition is open to composers worldwide. All submissions must be completed and submitted by an individual who is 18 years of age or older.
If the composer is under the age of 18, the submission must be completed by a parent or legal guardian on their behalf. By submitting an entry for a minor, the parent or legal guardian confirms acceptance of these Terms & Conditions and assumes full responsibility for the submission.
⸻
2. Submission Requirements
All submissions must be completed in full at the time of entry and include all required materials as specified on the competition submission page. Submissions are considered final once submitted and may not be revised, replaced, or updated.
Incomplete submissions may be disqualified at the discretion of SIMI Film Fest.
If selected for live performance, composers may be asked to adapt the orchestration of their submitted work to match the performing ensemble. This adaptation does not constitute a revision of the original submission and applies only to the performance preparation process.
⸻
3. Rights, Permissions, and Clearances
By submitting to the competition, entrants confirm that they have obtained all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions required to submit the music and any accompanying audiovisual materials for judging, review, and potential live performance.
Responsibility for securing all required rights and clearances rests solely with the submitter prior to submission. SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra assume no responsibility for rights clearance of submitted materials.
⸻
4. Performance Rights
If selected for performance, entrants grant SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra the non-exclusive right to rehearse and publicly perform the submitted music as part of the SIMIFF Film Music Concert and related festival events. Entrants further grant permission for audio and video recordings of such performances to be made and used for promotional, archival, and documentation purposes related to SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra.
This permission is granted solely for the purposes of competition presentation, rehearsal, performance, and related promotional, archival, and documentation use, and does not transfer ownership of the work.
⸻
5. Compensation
There is no financial compensation provided to entrants or composers for rehearsals or live performances unless explicitly stated otherwise in writing. Participation in the competition and any resulting performance is voluntary.
⸻
6. Judging and Selection
All judging decisions are final. SIMI Film Fest reserves the sole right to select winning submissions and determine programming for the Film Music Concert.
Optional orchestral reviews provided by the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra are independent of the judging process and have no influence on competition outcomes.
⸻
7. Selection Commitment & Participation Requirements
If selected for performance, entrants agree to participate in the SIMIFF Film Music Concert and may not withdraw their work from the competition or performance once selection has been confirmed.
Selection may involve rehearsal scheduling, score preparation, printing, marketing, and promotional materials. Entrants acknowledge that SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra may reasonably rely on their participation when making such arrangements.
Entrants further agree to cooperate in good faith with all reasonable production, rehearsal, and promotional requirements, including meeting stated deadlines and providing requested materials in a timely manner.
If selected for performance, composers will be required to provide complete, accurate, and professionally prepared digital parts for all instruments in the final performing ensemble by stated deadlines. Digital delivery of parts is sufficient; physical printing will be handled by SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra.
SIMI Film Fest reserves the right to revoke a selection and remove a work from the concert program, even after public announcement, if an entrant fails to meet required deadlines, does not provide necessary materials, becomes unresponsive, or otherwise impedes the reasonable production and presentation of the performance.
If selected for performance, entrants grant SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra the right to use the composer’s name, likeness, biographical information, and submitted work title in promotional, marketing, press, and documentation materials related to the competition, concert, and festival.
⸻
8. Prizes and Awards
Any prizes, awards, recognitions, or performance opportunities are subject to change, modification, or withdrawal without notice at the discretion of SIMI Film Fest. No substitutions or cash equivalents are guaranteed unless explicitly stated.
⸻
9. Payment and No-Refund Policy
Submissions are not considered complete or valid until payment has been successfully processed. SIMI Film Fest is not responsible for incomplete submissions resulting from failed or declined payment transactions.
All entry fees and optional add-on purchases are non-refundable under all circumstances, including but not limited to submission errors, disqualification, scheduling changes, or failure to be selected.
⸻
10. Scheduling, Production, and Force Majeure
SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra reserve the right to make reasonable changes to scheduling, instrumentation, personnel, programming, rehearsal structure, or performance logistics due to production considerations, performer availability, or unforeseen circumstances.
SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra shall not be held responsible for cancellation, postponement, or modification of any performance or event due to circumstances beyond their reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, venue issues, public health concerns, or performer unavailability.
⸻
11. Use of Submitted Materials
Submitted materials are used solely for competition administration, judging, review, rehearsal, and performance purposes. Materials will not be publicly distributed or shared beyond these uses without the composer’s permission.
