SIMIFF Film Music Composition Competition Submission

Please complete the form below to submit your score for consideration in the SIMIFF Film Music Composition Competition. You will be asked to provide basic information, a private video link to your scored scene, an audio file of the music, and a PDF score. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis. All required materials must be submitted at the time of entry. Entries will close on July 13 2026 11:59pm PST and the winners will be announced when all judging has been completed.

Competition Terms and Conditions(Required)

SIMIFF Film Music Competition – Terms & Conditions

By submitting an entry to the SIMIFF Film Music Competition, the individual completing the submission confirms that they have read, understood, and agree to these Terms & Conditions and have the legal authority to do so on their own behalf and, if applicable, on behalf of the composer.

1. Eligibility

The SIMIFF Film Music Competition is open to composers worldwide.

All submissions must be completed by an individual who is 18 years of age or older. If the composer is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must submit on their behalf and accepts full responsibility for the submission.

2. Submission Requirements

All submissions must be completed in full and include all required materials at the time of entry. Submissions are considered final and may not be revised or replaced.

Incomplete submissions may be disqualified at the discretion of SIMI Film Fest.

Composers may submit music written for:
• original projects, or
• re-scores of existing film, television, game, or online content

If selected for live performance, composers may be asked to adapt orchestration to suit the performing ensemble. This does not constitute a revision of the submitted work.

3. Use of Video Material (Rescores)

Rescored scenes are fully permitted and encouraged.

Entrants do not need to own or have permission for the original video material, provided that:
• the submission is used strictly for judging and internal review purposes only
• the entrant owns all rights to the submitted music

Submitted video links will not be publicly screened, distributed, or promoted by SIMI Film Fest unless separate permissions are obtained.

Entrants are responsible for ensuring their submissions do not violate platform terms (e.g., YouTube/Vimeo policies).

4. Performance Rights

If selected for performance, entrants grant SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra the non-exclusive right to rehearse and publicly perform the submitted music as part of the SIMIFF Film Music Concert and related events.

Entrants also grant permission for audio and video recordings of the performance to be used for promotional, archival, and documentation purposes.

This does not transfer ownership of the work.

5. Compensation

There is no financial compensation for rehearsals or performances unless explicitly stated otherwise in writing. Participation is voluntary.

6. Judging and Selection

All judging decisions are final.

SIMI Film Fest reserves the right to determine winners and programming for the Film Music Concert.

Optional orchestral reviews are independent of the judging process and have no influence on results.

7. Selection Commitment & Participation

If selected, entrants agree to participate in the performance and may not withdraw their work.

Entrants agree to:
• meet deadlines
• provide required materials
• cooperate with production and rehearsal needs

Selected composers must provide complete, professional digital parts by the required deadlines.

SIMI Film Fest reserves the right to revoke selection if requirements are not met.

Entrants grant permission for use of their name, likeness, and work title for promotional purposes.

8. Prizes and Awards

Prizes, awards, and opportunities are subject to change at the discretion of SIMI Film Fest.

9. Payment and No-Refund Policy

Entries are only valid once payment is successfully processed.

All fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.

10. Scheduling and Force Majeure

SIMI Film Fest reserves the right to adjust scheduling, programming, and logistics as needed.

No liability is assumed for cancellations or changes due to circumstances beyond control.

11. Use of Submitted Materials

Submitted materials are used solely for:
• judging
• review
• rehearsal
• performance preparation

They will not be publicly distributed without permission.

12. Limitation of Liability

SIMI Film Fest and the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra are not liable for technical issues, lost files, or third-party platform failures.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.

14. Severability

If any provision is found unenforceable, all remaining provisions remain in effect.
